Custom-fitted mouthguards are recommended for any child in contact sports or activities with fall risk. They're far more protective and comfortable than store-bought options.
Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste (rice-grain for under 3, pea-size for 3+), floss once daily, limit sugary snacks/drinks, and maintain regular dental visits every 6 months.
Children need help brushing until approximately age 8. Even after that, supervise and check their work. An easy rule: when they can tie their shoes, they have the dexterity to brush well.
